Meet the Doctor

Dr. Nelson Kanning

A native of Lawson, Missouri, Dr. Nelson Kanning graduated from Lawson High School in 1996. After participating on the University of Kansas football team, Nelson earned his B.S. at William Jewell College, with an emphasis in Leadership and Biology. He went on to serve as a trainer, consultant, and capital campaign fundraiser for Sigma Nu Fraternity and William Jewell College before deciding to pursue his lifelong dream: following his father’s (Dr. Larry Kanning) footsteps into the family dentistry practice.

Dr. Kanning graduated from the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Dentistry, with Endodontic Honors and served as the founding president of the Undergraduate Esthetics Club.

Early in his career he unknowingly observed many of the effects that sleep disordered breathing had on many of his patients’ teeth and gums. Those effects lead him to deeper learning about sleep disordered breathing and the systemic consequences his patients face without treatment.

Dr. Kanning has fully embraced the American Dental Association’s 2017 policy statement that dentists should be proactively assessing patient’s risk for sleep disordered breathing as part of a comprehensive dental and medical history.

Today, Dr. Kanning and his team have invested in the technology and education to be true advocates for patients’ wellness as well as building relationships with physicians to determine the best treatment for the patients’ conditions.

Outside of dentistry, “Dr. Nelson”, as he is also known as, enjoys spending time with his best friend and wife Amy, their son Hayes and their daughter Collins. Together they enjoy time in the outdoors- mountain biking, water skiing, camping, but Dr. Nelson especially loves perfecting the art of striping his front and back yards.
